Onto better lands
And clearer waters.
Where emerald blades stretch
As far as the eye can see.
Where people dance on the
Shores of corn colored beaches
And the sun is reflected off of
Beautiful melanin skin.
Omg! I can’t believe its been two months since I last posted. I have been so swamped with school I have absolutely no time for anything else…except watching the entire series of Charmed, but that’s not the point. The point is I have been so busy with classes that I haven’t read a single book in two months. There is one book that I’ve started reading but haven’t finished: Here Comes the Sun.
It is told from the point of three woman who live in Jamaica and what their lives entail. It’s a very fascinating read so far and its relatable. At least for me.
As some of you may know (or don’t) Pinterest is my favorite app and a couple of days ago I came across a list of items that every reader would want to have. You can view the list here.
Hopefully, once school is over I can get back to my pleasure reading.
Until next time!
by Crowcombe Al Girl Scout Cookie season is upon us, and I’m scared. A bunch of Girl Scouts formed a gang that hangs out in front of my neighborhood grocery store. As I’m heading to my car, they step in front of me and say, “Hey, hey, hey. Not so fast, lady. We’ve made you…
Omg! I miss this blog! With school and work I haven’t had time to read and review. But now that the semester is over I can get back to pleasure reading and reviewing! As of right now, I have two books in my possession that I’m going to read and review soon.
The first one is The 100 by Mass Morgan. This read was long overdue. I wanted to read this series when they came out with the show. It seemed like a very interesting concept and I was intrigued. The next second book is Black Pain by Terrie M. Williams. This book is different from other books I have read because it tells the real story behind pain in the black community and how Williams’ herself has experienced it.
Now, I don’t want to get ahead of myself but of course I will. The next two stories I am interested in reading are Throne of Glass and Court of Thorns and Roses. I have heard so many greats things about these two books, I can’t stand it! I’m very very excited to read them!
Well, with 4 books on my list I should busy for the next few weeks. I hope to have a new post up by next week. Stay tuned!
Until next time!
I enjoy the book tags ThriceRead posts every week. It’s interesting to see what other people like to read and it also makes me think about some of my favorite characters.
1. “It’s pronounced like Cady” – Which fictional character’s names did you get completely wrong?
I said it once and I’ll say it again: Carlisle from Twilight. I’ve never knew it was spelled like that and was pronouncing it wrong the entire time.
2. “She doesn’t even go here!” – Which character would you like to place in a fictional world from another book or series?
3. “On Wednesdays we wear pink!” – Repetition. Repetition. Which book gave you dejavu of another book whilst reading it?
The beginng of Red Queen reminded me of the beginning of Dorothy Mist Die.
4. “You all have got to stop calling each other sluts and whores. It just makes it okay for guys to call you sluts and whores.” – Which book gave you the complete opposite of girl power feels?
Eh. Not really sure. If the lead female character falls in loves and whines and whines ALL THE TIME, its annoying.
5. “You go Glen Coco!” – Name a character you felt like you wanted to cheer on whilst reading.
Lisbeth Salander from Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
6. “Get in loser, we’re going shopping!” – How long do you typically spend at a book shop?
To be honest, less than an hour.
7. “It’s not my fault you’re like in love with me or something!” – Which character would have to take out a restraining order on you if they were real?
8. “I can’t help it that I’m popular.” – Which overhyped book were you cautious about reading?
Gone Girl. Everybody said the book and movie were good but I was very cautious about reading it. But it was scarily awesome!
9. “She’s a life ruiner. She ruins peoples lives.” – We all love Regina George. Name a villain you couldn’t help but love.
Lisabeth Salander. I mean she’s more of an antihero but still.
10. “I’m not like a regular Mom, I’m a cool Mom.” – Your favourite fictional parents.
Hmm, don’t have any.
11. “That is so Fetch!” – Which book or series would you love to catch on?
The Kitty Norville series by Carrie Vaughn or the New Orleans series by Lisa Jackson.
12. “How do I even begin to explain Regina George?” – Describe your ideal character to read about.
Badass female character that doesn’t need a man or end up with a man. I mean, I’m a hopeless romantic but the girl doesn’t always need to end up with a guy.
13. “Nice wig Janice, what’s it made of?” “Your Mom’s chest hair!” – Which characters one liners would you love to claim for your own?
14. “Boo, you whore.” – Name a time a characters decision has made you roll your eyes
Pretty much every time the main character does something stupid.
This is the second time doing a book tag so I hope you guys enjoy it!
We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together | A book or series that you were pretty sure you were in love with, but now want to break up with
Dorothy Must Die. The first book was very entertaining and even-paced. However, the second and third book didn’t quite cut it. There are three novellas to the series but to be honest I don’t think I’m going to read them.
Red | Pick a book with a red cover
Confession of a Murder Suspect by James Patterson. The whole cover isn’t red but the background is. And James Patterson is one of my favorite authors.
The Best Day | A book that makes you feel nostalgic
I would have to say Dumplin’: Go Big or Go Home. The reason why is because it reminded of a similar story called Artichoke’s Heart that I read in eighth grade. And that takes me back to back to when I read, like, 2 books a week!
Love Story | A book with a forbidden love
Rose and Dmitri from Vampire Acadamy. Their relationship is a student and teacher/mentor type of deal. Not to mention the 5 year age gap between them makes it even more scandalous.
I Knew You Were Trouble | A book with a bad character you couldn’t help but love
Cormac! Cormac Bennett is a badass in the Kitty Norville series by Carrie Vaughn. He’s a bounty hunter that’s breaks the rules left and right but you can’t help but love him.
Innocent | A book where someone ruined the ending for you
Someone told me that Bella Swan got pregnant in Breaking Dawn even though it wasn’t at the exact ending. But I guess you could use that.
Everything Has Changed | A character from a book who goes through extensive character development
Kitty Norville. She started off as the meek and submissive baby of the wolf pack. But once sh went off in her own she found herself, became independent and a badass.
You Belong With Me- Your most anticipated book release
There are so many book releases I anticipate but the last one was The Girl In The Spider’s web. It’s a continuation of the The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
Forever and Always | Your favorite book couple
It’s a tie between Bella and Edward and Max and Fang from The Maximum Ride series. As much as people hate Twilight, I love it. Yes, the way Bella and Edward fell in love may be unrealistic but they’re sweet together and they belong together. Then there’s Max and Fang who started out as best friends but became more than that throughout the series. Although they never officially claimed to be a couple their relationship is still strong and they complete each other.
Come Back, Be Here | The book you would be least likely to lend to someone, for fear of missing it too much
The Midnight Hour by Carrie Vaughn.
Teardrops On My Guitar | A book that made you cry a lot
Fault In Our Stars. If you know what it’s about then I need not explain any further.
Shake It Off | A book that you love so much, you just shake off the haters
Twilight. I just like that it was different. The vamps don’t die in sunlight, they sparkle. Their eyes turn amber when they drink animal blood and red when they drink human blood. The sutleties were different.
As you can see to mentioned the same book but a couple of times. But I’ve read so many books over the years I can barely keep up!
Until next time!
So, this is my first time doing a book tag and I’m not exactly sure how to do it. I mean it’s not rocket science but for some reason I feel like there’s a specific place you have to go to actually do one. But anyway, I’m going go ahead and give on a try. So, I saw a book tag on a blog that I follow, Thriceread, and it looked easy and cool enough. So here it is: the Inside Out book tag.
In some situations I do believe that some books give a little too much information. But then again other books don’t give enough information. But overall, I don’t mind reading the summary of a book. Just don’t give too much away.
That’s hard. Hardbacks are easier to maintain but paperbacks are easier to carry and maneuver. But if I had to choose it would be paperback. I love getting a new book, flipping the pages and smelling them. Yes……I’m a book sniffer Don’t judge me!
I absolutely don’t write in my books! I don’t fold the pages of a paperback back when I’m reading, I don’t dog ear. None of that. I want to have my books in pristine condition as long as I can. The perfectionist in me, I guess. I will admit when I was little I used to write my name in the inside jacket but that’s about it.
Oh my god, I can’t even begin to think of my favorite first sentence. I’ve read so many books I can’t keep up. But if I had to choose:
I’ve never given much thought to how I would die. But dying in the place of someone I love seems like a good way to go.
I love Twilight despite it’s many criticisms. This sentence is a little morbid but you have to agree with Bella when she says this. Plus it makes you question what exactly is going to unfold in this book. I feel as though if people read the book and not base the series solely off the movies they’d feel a little differently…….maybe.
Majority of the books I read are written by women but I don’t care about the author’s gender. Some of my favorite authors are men. As long as the book is captivating and enjoyable it doesn’t matter.
I hate people who read ahead!!!! You pretty much ruined the whole point of reading the book! The fun of reading is the see where the story goes and where the characters take you. However….there are many times where I have to put my hand on the page to keep my eyes from wandering.
Organized. I like having my book in alphabetical order.
Hmmm. Well, to be honest, I don’t really buy books. I check them out at the library. But even in the case, I’ve never taken out a book solely based on the cover. If the cover looks interesting then I will pick it up. But if the summary isn’t good I won’t take the chance.
I’m mostly an indoor type of person. But I will read on the bus, at work, in the car, ect.
So there you have it. My very first book tag. I hope I did it right. But they say practice makes perfect.
Until next time!
I was scrolling through my Facebook feed when I came across an article stating that the third installment to the Maze Runner series, The Death Cure, will be delayed because that main character, Dylan O’Brien got injured.
I honestly thought the movie would be delayed because the producer or director or whoever wanted to take a little time to reevaluate. I say that because the second installment, The Sorch Trials, did not do the book justice. If you want to see the review I did on the movie please click here.
Anyway, I sincerely hope the third movie will be better but for some reason I doubt. As I said in my last post, when there are multiple books to a series the plot seems to drag on or go in all different directions. The same goes for the movies that were adapted from those books. Anyway….just a random thought.
I was looking through my Facebook feed today and one of my followers shared a link to an article that was written last year about how Nigeria has banned female genital mutilation. That actually reminded me of the first time I ever heard of FGM (or female castration as I first heard it). I was in middle school when I read No Laughter Here by Rita Williams-Garcia. Its about a young girl whose best friend comes home from Nigeria and has a change in personality. She doesn’t laugh, smile and she barely talks. Later on the main character finds out that her best friend has been through the process of genital mutilation to became “pure.” When I first read this book I couldn’t believe it. I’ve known about boys being castrated but girls?! To me it didn’t seem possible let alone real. But it was. And it still is. This just goes to show you that women in all aspects and all environments are seen as objects that have to be pure. And that they can’t have sex for pleasure. I’m not trying to condemn any country for its ttime.
tions and ways of life. I never grew up around stuff like that and it’s just hard to accept that there are people in the world who actually participate in this. However, it is nice to see that some countries are letting go of some of those old school traditions and bringing forth a new set of ways, including America. We are not perfect but the laws are being rewritten and change is coming. The world is still far off from being perfect. But, hey! One step at a time.
Until next time!
Hi, all! Today I’m going to be talking about some of my anticipated book releases of April 2016. These are some of the books that I’m excited about because a) their synopsis sounds really interesting b) their covers. I have mentioned these books according to their publication date. So, let’s get started: April 5th, 2016 The […]
